A pilot inventory of elite indigenous timber-tree seed-sources for indigenous afforestation & silviculture from lowland environmental domains.

The group’s elite eco seed-sourcing projects catalyse indigenous afforestation and develop sustainability capital, thus implementing Part 1 of the RMA, helping achieve Goal 3 of NZ's Biodiversity Strategy,  mitigate New Zealand’s C-emissions and will qualify to exchange overseas C- credits for New Zealand.

Legislation supports ecological afforestation and eco seed-sourcing overseas.  The European Act on Forest Reproductive Material (FoVG) 1 on May, 22nd 2002 corresponds to NZ’s RMA, its amendments and other Act’s subsequent synchronization.   According to this Act,  plant propagation material for afforestation projects ought to be eco-sourced and from certified stands with superior timber attributes. Standard variables are generically applied to identify elite timber-tree seed-sources and to comply with the requirements of the Act.

Consequently, a substantial body of applied research backs eco-sourcing of plant propagation material with superior timber attributes for ecological afforestation projects and forestry’s sustainable development, which benefits this project’s efficient implementation and effective project extensions.
